Okay, so you know the green lantern, yes?

They’re a group of superheroes from all around the galaxy who wear special power rings that allow them to create anything they can picture in their minds.

The ring is fuelled by harnessing the power of will, or willpower, which is generally considered to be one of the strongest powers in the universe.
Fear is pretty darn powerful too, but it can be corrupted easily and you could end up like this guy:

And that aint pretty. Alright, time for a detour.
Assuming that you haven’t been living under a rock for your entire life, you’ve seen/heard of Monsters, Inc.

Badass monsters who “scare” because they “care”, providing the Monster World with energy.
The energy in the Monster World is derived from children’s screams (pretty gruesome stuff for a kids movie, but that’s Disney for you).

Scary stuff right?
But through an adorable and heart-warming series of events, the two main characters in the movie figure out that laughter is in fact a much more powerful form of energy.
HOLD THAT THOUGHT! LET’S MAKE SOME CONNECTIONS!
Green Lantern taught us that:
Willpower: good, clean energy
Fear: super powerful, corrupted easily, and just a shitty buzz for everyone
and Monsters, Inc taught us that:
Screams (aka a product of fear): a good form of energy, but you have to make children unhappy to attain it, leading to some pretty fucked up adults in the future
Laughter: good wholesome energy
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Monsters = Aliens
Both of whom exist in our world, but the majority of the human race remains unaware.
(At least, that’s what the graphic novels/movies/geeks want us to believe)
